About Tuffour

Francis Tuffour, the Digital Media and Communication Director for the Ohio Conference, oversees digital media strategy, web presence, public relations, media relations, content creation, and digital marketing. He also provides support and resources for departmental directors, pastors, schools, ministries, and church communication leaders. 

Tuffour is a media minister, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Analyst, certified social media manager, eLearning developer, online engagement administrator, multi-virtual community creator, and manager with over 20 years of dynamic and thriving online experience and digital assets management. He has more than 2 million followers and members on his digital platforms. He believes Christian communicators are slow adopters of technology that uses cutting-edge approaches in message delivery. He encourages church leaders to use new media platforms in Christian communication. He was hired by the Integrated Marketing & Communication of Andrews University in Michigan as an Enrollment Strategic Marketing Assistant. He also worked at Adventist Information Ministry, an evangelistic call center of Seventh-day Adventist media ministries located on the campus of Andrews University. Tuffour was an Instructional Facilitator with Andrews University's Department of Digital Learning and Instructional Technology (DLiT) in Michigan from March 2018-February 2019. He creates micro learning content called TuffWords that helps people to learn the Twi language of Ghana, owner and editor of Sukuu News, Ghana's premier online news and information portal, for students, and FaithGenixAI, creating AI solutions to amplify the message of faith, hope, and love, without compromising on the moral and ethical standards that are the cornerstone of Christian beliefs.

It was his childhood dream to become a journalist; he abandoned preparation for that career path when he accepted a call to go into ministry. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology from Valley View University in Accra, Ghana. His intense passion for media led him to serve in the Student Association as an associate editor. He later saw that one could serve God through media ministry.

After graduation, he worked with the South Central Ghana Conference as a preacher and served on several communication committees. He was appointed as Communication Director from 2010 to 2014. In that role, he helped in planning, organizing, and directing overall communication strategies, media relations, managing social media, and public information activities for the conference. In addition, he founded the Society of Adventists in Media (SAM), a vibrant professional media association for Adventists in Ghana. He has also served in Ghana as Chaplaincy Director.

From 2012-2014 Tuffour served as Communication and Editorial Committee Member for the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT)–Washington, DC, reviewing publication materials for content and clarity, suggesting additional avenues to explore, and giving input on the topics of upcoming articles.

He was a media team member that filmed Pioneer Memorial Church's weekly services on the Campus of Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. In the team, he served as a broadcast engineer, supporting the creation of the best possible worship experience for the in-house church members and online audience and airing on Hope TV, 3 Angels Broadcasting Network, Safe TV, and other stations. In addition, Tuffour assisted the communication department of Andrews University and other ministries with social media needs when he was a graduate student.

Tuffour is the creator and manager of Obra TV, an over-the-top (OTT) Christian media outlet. He earned a Google Digital Marketing & E-commerce Certificate, which is endorsed by the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4A’s) and the American Advertising Federation (AAF). He completed his professional certificate course in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) from University of California, Davis. Tuffour is a Meta Certified Community Manager, "an invite-only group for those who have successfully passed the Facebook Certified Community Manager Certification." In October 2018, he was selected as a Power Admin by Facebook Power Admins-US, a group managed by the Facebook Groups team at Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park, California. Facebook has stated that Power Admins "lead the most active, engaging, and influential groups on the Facebook platform." This exclusive membership gives Tuffour rare opportunities to connect and collaborate with the Facebook team and other great admins to provide feedback, test new features before they are released to the general public, and learn best practices.

He is a member of the Facebook Community Learning Labs. This invite-only program brings extraordinary leaders of the largest and most engaged groups together to advance the goals of their communities. In July 2021, he became one of 20 people accepted into Facebook’s new initiative “created to support community managers who are looking to take the next step in their community career, whether through the job seeking, consulting, developing a personal brand, or leveling up as a community professional.” The 20 fellows are all Facebook Blueprint Certified Community Managers.

His passion is media ministry. His vision is to create and employ new media and communication platforms to share the Good News of Jesus and to enhance education and training through technology. Tuffour holds Education Specialist (Ed.S) degree in Instructional Design and Technology (IDT) from Keiser University in Florida. He graduated with M. A. in Religion from the University of Ghana in 2006 (his dissertation was on media and communication), M. A. in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Cape Coast in 2013. He earned his Doctor of Ministry degree (D.Min, in 2017) from Andrews University in Michigan and M. A. in Communication with a specialization in Media Studies at Andrews University in 2017. His production project was on: (Building Digital Media) Out of this, he developed his first mobile app.

Tuffour has attended several local and international communication and media conventions. One of the highlights of his media experience was when he was selected to participate in the State of NASA Social held at NASA Glenn Research Center’s Plum Brook Station in Sandusky, Ohio, on February 9, 2016. NASA handpicked and gave him a credential to witness the event due to his active use of diverse new media platforms and digital tools to convey information to a unique audience. He was found to be a person who frequently produced new content that featured multimedia elements with the potential to reach many people. He got the opportunity to learn more about NASA Glenn’s exciting research and technology. He enjoyed behind-the-scenes tours of the Space Power Facility.

His favorite quote from Ellen G. White is: “We must take every justifiable means of bringing the light before the people. Let the press be utilized, and let every advertising agency be employed that will call attention to the work. This should not be regarded as nonessential. On every street corner you may see placards and notices calling attention to various things that are going on, some of them of the most objectionable character; and shall those who have the light of life be satisfied with feeble efforts to call the attention of the masses to the truth?"
